No noise. Spotted from my patio here in Canmore. You be the judge. What is it? It’s obviously a V shape and the comparison to the “regular” airplane is completely different. Sorry about the camera shake. This craft was almost directly above my tripod and filming it while mounted was near impossible. I didn’t want it to “disappear” before I had a chance to film it. What you see is what you get. I managed to snap a few photographs of the craft as well. I will post them up on Flickr or something and throw the URL up here in the comments.
9 days to travel the Canadian Rockies,starting in Calgary,ending in Vancouver. Where to visit and best route?
I travel to Canada in May 2012. From Toronto I am flying to Calgary and I want to drive through the Rockies sightseeing to Vancouver.
I arrive in Calgary on May 13th and need to arrive in Vancouver by 21st May. I would like to see as many of the major sights as possible e.g Lake Louise, Jasper, Banff.

Cheap accomodations in or around Banff National Park in Canada, AB?
I am going to be traveling in Canada in October and I was wondering if anybody knows a cheap place to stay in Banff or in close proximity to it.
How much to go to Jasper?
How much will it cost approximately for a 4 person family to visit Jasper National Park for about a week??? I am not interested in camping, i would prefer to stay at a hotel and take the via train one way and a plane the other way??? i live in ontario. please also approximate the cost o dining, i appreciate this very much. thank u!!! any experience would also help!

Skiing/Snowboarding in Sunshine Village or Lake Louise?
I have been to both and I definitely liked Sunshine Village better. But I have only gone to Lake Louise once so I could be misjudging it. Which do you like better and why?

Mount Fairview Summit (9003ft) - Canadian Rockies - Amelyn Chong & Hock Aun 2010
Hiked up Mount Fairview on 3rd Oct 2010. Started to rain and strong winds came. Could not keep balance in the strong winds and had to hide behind some rocks. Thank God rain and wind stopped after about 20 minutes and we were able get to the summit in clear weather. Great views from the summit!

UFO 'Ball of Lightning' Orb - Canmore, Alberta - May 21, 2011
This is the first time that I’ve seen and managed to film this red/orange/green/blue Orb for such a long period of time. The best I can describe it is that it was like a contained ball of multicolor lightning. It appeared, I noticed, began filming with my Panasonic HDC-TM700 HD camera mounted to my Velbon video tripod and then it disappeared. About to pack it in and call it a night; it came back suddenly and I continued recording. It was very bright, barely moved and was hovering VERY low around the houses here. I pulled back the video frame a little so you could see the entire picture without thinking I’m super-zoomed in or something. This time round, it looked like a ball of electrical energy. Anyone else here in Canmore see anything like this over the long-weekend?

Hi – I’ll be driving to Banff and Jasper National Parks in Alberta, Canada in a few days. I’ve already made reservations for campsites, but will need to pay for gas, park admission, and miscellaneous food and expenses while in the parks. To pay for things like this (particularly in Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, and then throughout southern Canada on the drive back home to Wisconsin), will I:
A) Be able to use my Visa debit card like I can at home in the US,
B) Need to bring along a lot of cash and convert to Canadian dollars, or
C) Just be able to bring along American dollars and spend it like in the US?

how long did it take for the Canadian Rockies to form? Was it a slow or fast formation?
Was the formation a sudden occurance or would they have taken a long time to form. Any ideas what it would have been like to be in the area when the mountains actually form as I understand that at one time the mountains would have been under an ocean.

my reason for asking is i am planning a trip to canada and i am in two minds as to whether to stop in kamloops, it looks like a nice place but there seems to be very little cheap accommodation and i`m not sure if its worth visiting

When driving from Jasper National Park to Kamloops which is the best road for scenery?
Hi and thanks for reading and hopefully you can help.
My husband and I will be travelling from Australia to Canada in April 2010 and will be driving from Calgary to Vancouver. We are going to stop in Banff and then either go to Lake Louise and stay over or go right on to Jasper.
We then have the option to drive from Jasper to Kamloops using BC-Yellowhead Highway/Highway 16 or come back the way we came from Jasper, stop overnight in Lake Louise and then travel on to Kamloops on Highway 93 and then Highway 1.
My question is, which route has the better scenery? Yellowhead/Highway 16 or Highway 93/Highway 1?

Incredible UFO 'Ball of Lightning' Orb - Canmore, AB, Canada - May 21, 2011
This is the first time that I’ve seen and managed to film this red/orange/green/blue Orb for such a long period of time. The best I can describe it is that it was like a contained ball of multicolor lightning. It appeared, I noticed, began filming with my Panasonic HDC-TM700 HD camera mounted to my Velbon video tripod and then it disappeared. About to pack it in and call it a night; it came back suddenly and I continued recording. It was very bright, barely moved and was hovering VERY low around the houses here. I pulled back the video frame a little so you could see the entire picture without thinking I’m super-zoomed in or something. This time round, it looked like a ball of electrical energy. Anyone else here in Canmore see anything like this over the long-weekend?

STORRS – Jasper Howard, a 5-foot-9, 174-pound starting cornerback on the UConn football team, died today after an on-campus stabbing. According to multiple sources, Howard, 20, was reportedly was stabbed near the student union. Howard was airlifted by LifeStar to St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to a UConn press release. Police also said there was a second victim who is not being identified and was treated and released from the hospital, but it does not name which hospital or say if the second victim was male or female. Howard is from Miami and attended Miami Edison High School. State Police major crime unit and UConn police say the stabbing happened just after 12:30 am Sunday on Hillside Road near the center of campus. Police said two people were stabbed and were found near each other on Hillside Road. Both were taken by UConn ambulances to Windham Community Memorial Hospital. Police said the stabbing happened when a school-sponsored dance at the student union was let out. A fire alarm was pulled at 12:26 am, an altercation happened outside the building between two groups of people and then two people were stabbed. The perpetrator of the stabbing is still at large, according to an emergency alert posted on the University’s website Sunday morning. On Saturday, Howard had a solid performance in the Huskies 38-25 win over Louisville at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. He had 11 tackles and also forced a fumble and recovered it in the third …

Leaving Banff
Tuesday 18th Aug 2009 Up well before dawn to see Venus and a very old crescent moon hanging in the gathering light of dawn. A spectacular sight over forest. Hit the road and by the time I got to the Athabasca glacier (only about half an hour later) the sky was clouding in. In the grey light I was the first in the glacier car park. Flight conditions were near perfect. The short walk up to the glacier was made more fun by the 1980 marker (about the last time I stood here) some 300m short of the present end of the glacier. Flight went well, very well. The glacier was big and open, and bar crashing on the glacier there was little that you could do wrong, although it was clear from my shortness of breath that this place was quite high. Landing was sloppy given the excellent conditions. Headed back to the Wilcox pass trailhead (it was originally the plan to do this first, but the glacier was just too much of a target of opportunity). I had bumped into some guy at Lake Louise the day before who had given the trail rave reviews as the hike to put all other hikes to shame. On the trail by 8.30, that put me at the second person on the trail. The hike was steep in the trees to begin with, and the weather cool, and increasing gloomy as the cloud cover increased. After only about half an hour I had cleared the trees and there were excellent views of the icefields opposite. However as I neared the top of the pass this was largely obscured by hills in the foreground. On what I assumed …

Instead of the mighty Fraser tumbling down to the Pacific we now found ourselves travelling alongside the Miette, a rushing little river flowing eastward, that quickly grew in strength the closer we got to the town of Jasper. I want my honeymoon to be romantic and fun; we were thinking about Cancun but we cannot find a room in January through an exchange with my parent’s timeshare. We found a very nice resort in Canmore, Alberta and it looks really cool and fun but I’m not completely sure if it will be a good idea to go there in January…Has anyone been there anytime close to the winter months? Is there stuff to do even in those months???? I just don’t want to get there and be trapped in a hotel room because there’s nothing to do.
